This time of year can be hard for many of us, and for many different reasons. Here are 7 gentle reminders for your mental health to carry forward this month:

1. You don’t have to feel festive. it’s okay if this season feels heavy, quiet, stressful or complicated - or if you struggle with, or don’t celebrate, Christmas.

2. Grief and joy can coexist - missing someone or something and still finding small moments of light is normal.

3. Rest is necessary - the days are at their shortest and darkest, so feeling low on energy is natural. Slowing down is part of staying well, and doesn’t mean you’re failing.

4. You deserve to set boundaries without guilt - you’re allowed to say no to invitations, situations, or commitments that overwhelm you.

5. Comparison is the thief of joy - Other people’s social media posts are not a reflection on you, your pace is enough.

6. Hot drinks, chilly walks, reading books and early nights all count as self-care.

7. December isn’t a deadline, and you don’t need to be different or better, you’re simply allowed to be.
